2018 Exhibitions

22 March to 10 May – Folklore and Magic an exhibition by Laurence Rowlands

Laurence is a Porlock based artists whose inspiration comes from his passion for walking on Exmoor.  His recent work has been a series of drawings, paintings and prints exploring folklore.  This has evolved from his interest in images of The Green Man and developed to explore images based on local and British folk tales.

11 May to 29 June – Coastal Paintings of Exmoor by John Crush

John is a local artist with a studio by Lynmouth beach.  His work is inspired by his love of the sea and its ever changing moods.  This is an exciting exhibition of paintings in oils, acrylics and pastels exploring beaches, harbours and views from the coast out to sea.

30 June to 20 July – Through the Garden Gate by Jo Chorley

Always a keen gardener and lover of the countryside, here we have the best of both.  “Through the gate one way is my garden, go the other way and all around is Exmoor, nature’s garden.”

20 July to 7 September – Joint Exhibition – Jane Hood and Sue Lowe

Jane paints Somerset landscapes using mixed media on handmade paper.

Sue’s pieces on show at The Harbour Gallery are all hand-printed on an etching press, from richly-textured collagraph plates.  Her work is concerned with textures and surfaces and draws inspiration from the lines and patterns found in nature.  The fascinating geology of the beautiful West Somerset coast is a recurring theme in Sue’s work.

8 September onward – Local Landscapes – Graham Towler

Landscapes have always been Graham’s motivation to paint and this exhibition focuses mainly on Exmoor.  He feels that the medium of pain allows him to capture the various tones, colours and textures created by the natural world.
