Spring 2020 Collection – A Joint Exhibition from two Somerset Artists

Maureen Carveley

Maureen is passionate about art; it has been a lifelong interest and she has spent many years practising and expanding her skills in order to share them with children and adults alike.

At the moment her preferred subjects are landscapes and still life, depicted in a variety of media, including pen and ink, acrylics and watercolour.  A recent discovery has been watercolour inks, which she finds give a greater vibrancy of colour.

Maureen draws from a variety of sources for inspiration, from looking at the work of other artists in galleries to the immediate world around.  In particular she is inspired by the beautiful scenery of the Somerset countryside, where she has lived for the past 7 years.

Tony Bickerstaff

Born in Lancashire, Tony has lived and worked in Somerset for the last 25 years.  Holidaying and living part-time in France, he taught Art to community groups and entered many competitions, winning several. Tony works in a variety of media, including oil, acrylic, pastel and occasionally watercolour.  Originally working “en plain air”, he now gets inspiration from various sources, with his subjects being mainly landscapes, usually with a watery theme.

22nd May to 20th July

Airborne and Earthbound – A Joint Exhibition by two local artists

Laurence Rowlands

Laurence is a Porlock based artist whose inspiration comes from his passion for walking on Exmoor.  His recent work has been a series of drawings, paintings and sculpture focusing on land and sky.  As with his previous work he is drawn to themes that explore the spiritual and magical elements of nature and landscape.  In this exhibition ‘Airborne and Earthbound’ he blends reality with fantasy.

Angela Newbold

Angela’s love of fabric continues to inspire her work enabling an exploration of other medias including painting, printing and stitching.

Her work is a continued journey through the use of materials that have had a previous life reflecting layers of age and history.

Her latest exhibition Airborne & Earthbound sees her draw upon the richness of the environment she lives in and her life on the moor.

21st July to 14th September

Rebecca de Mendonca ASEA

Rebecca’s love of atmosphere and movement started with her Theatre Design degree at Wimbledon School of Art. She is fascinated by Exmoor, and the ponies that live there. Rebecca is an Associate member of the Society of Equestrian Artists, and is inspired by the landscapes of Devon and Somerset, including the people, and animals that are part of the landscape.

Pastels are her perfect medium, allowing her to simultaneously combine drawing and painting; making marks with energy, fluidity and precision.

Rebecca teaches pastel courses in Britain and Italy, and her book, Pastels for the Absolute Beginner was published by Search Press in 2019.

Exhibitions include the Pastel Society, and Artists of the Year 2019, at the Mall Galleries, London.

15th September Onwards

Local Landscapes – Graham Towler

Graham returns for another of his very popular winter exhibitions. Landscapes have always been Graham’s motivation to paint and this exhibiton focuses mainly on Exmoor. He feels that the medium of paint allows him to capture the various tones, colours and textures created by the natural world.
